Local elections are also climate elections! Ahead of the local elections on September 13, 2026, Klimaentscheid Lüneburg has published a Climate Election Check. Modeled after the Wahl-O-Mat, you can compare your own positions on climate protection with those of the mayoral candidates and their parties.

Cities play a central role in climate protection. Future-oriented issues such as energy production, sustainable mobility, citizen participation, and climate justice can be shaped locally. The Election Check makes the candidates’ climate-related positions transparent and shows where the candidates and their parties stand on climate protection.

For the Climate Election Check, Klimaentscheid presented the mayoral candidates with 15 statements on climate protection in July 2026. Responses were provided by Mats Dedow (Die Partei), Andrea Schröder-Ehlers (SPD), Claudia Kalisch (independent, member of Bündnis 90/Die Grünen), Heiko Meyer (independent), Michel Pauly (VOLT), Thorben Peters (Die Linke), and Frank Soldan (FDP). The CDU’s mayoral candidate, Patrick Pietruck, did not participate in the Election Check.

The Climate Election Check aims to create transparency in the short term and hold politicians accountable in the long term. After the election, citizens can keep track of whether climate-protection promises are kept.

The Election Check was developed in collaboration with the climate-protection organization GermanZero e. V. and its LocalZero network. Go directly to the Climate Election Check.
